I love New York City and have been creating work that captures the city, its people and its music.
I grew up in New York City. My dad was a fine artist, my mom was a writer. I was an award winning art director with ad agencies in the city and then in upstate NY where I raised my 3 amazing children.
When I returned to New York in 2003 I returned to my first love, drawing, I’ve been illustrating since then for the NY Times, Wall Street Journal and numerous other publications.
Jerelle Kraus in her book All the Art That’s Fit to Print (And Some That Wasn’t) says Joan is a gifted quick sketch artist.
